Painting The Exterior of Your Home

A quick and relatively inexpensive way to increase your homes’ value and add curb appeal is by painting the exterior of your home. Exterior painting can also help to protect your home from harsh winter conditions and prolong the life of the home.
Before beginning an exterior painting project, you must first inspect the outside of the home. Make sure there is no water damage or cracks that need to fill in before you begin. After completing the inspection, you will want to thoroughly clean the exterior. This can be done with a power washer. Using a power washer removes the dirt and any loose some paint chips. Once the house has been power washed, go over the shingles and siding with a paint scraper scrapping and loose paint. All the old paint does not need to be removed, just the loose chips that the power washer didn’t remove.
After the cleaning is complete, the next step is prepping and priming. Paint will not stick to wood, so it is imperative that you put primer on all wood that is exposed in order to have a nice even finish. Install flashing to prevent any water damage to your home. Once it is screwed in, put a layer of caulking at the top to effectively seal it. Tape off all your trim and cover the windows with paper. These are vital steps in any exterior painting project.
Finally, to maximize your painting coverage area using paint gun or professional sprayer is best. You will want to follow up with a paint roller using a technique called back rolling getting all the nooks and crannies. At competition and the paint is dry, remove the taping and your exterior painting project is done.
