Feng Shui | Right Choice Painting & Construction

Ideally, bedrooms are calming, restful, peaceful sanctuaries where you can relax and rejuvenate. What do you see when you walk into your bedroom? Can you move freely around the room? Is it visually pleasing or is there clutter on the dresser and clothes on a chair? Does your nightstand double as your charging station? If your bedroom doesn’t feel very relaxing, you may need some Feng Shui.

Feng shui (pronounced “fong schway”) is an ancient Chinese art and science that encourages balancing the energy of a space to ensure good health and fortune. Proponents believe that everything is alive and filled with Chi, or energy, and can have either a positive or negative effect on your well-being.

For the most positive Chi in your bedroom, check out these tips:

Eliminate clutter. Removing clutter from your bedroom can give you space to breathe and move; and a feeling of control. Remove electronics and exercise equipment. Clean out the area under your bed so energy can move around freely.

Make it safe. Safety can be a physical concern in the bedroom in terms of sharp corners, or items hanging above the bed, but it can also be a psychological concern. Consider a ceiling fan with leaf-shaped blades made out of natural fibers as opposed to a sleek, metal unit with knife-like blades.

Connect with nature. Images of nature and landscapes conjure good health and restorative adventures. Open the windows or improve air-quality with an air purifier.

Add some color. Repaint the walls for the type of energy you want to create. Warm colors like reds and yellows inspire passion. Wood colors like green and brown create healthy energy. Blues and blacks equate with freshness; and earth colors are for stability.

Decorate the feng shui way. Place the bed so that it is not directly across from a door or under a window. Nightstands on either side of the bed give balance and ground the energy. Use several levels of lighting, such as candles, lamps, and overhead lights because light is believed to be the strongest manifestation of energy.

Implementing feng shui principles in your bedroom could be a path to some very sweet dreams.
